I was blessed at the beginning of this year with getting into a shared art studio at the The Northrup King Building in Northeast Minneapolis.
I have been trying to get into this art building for over 10 years. The reason why this art building is so important to me is due to being public facing and receiving patrons throughout the week to roam through out the building.
Our art building is open 8am to 8pm, with security to keep our building safe. Our neighbor is safe and secure and I have not encountered any issues from troublesome people.
I am able to access my shared art studio anytime I need to get in, and I open my studio to most all open studio events and I am available to open my art studio at special requests.
NKB is home to over 350 tenants, including artist studios, creative small businesses, and nonprofit organizations.
Originally built in 1917 by the Northrup King & Co. seed company, this complex includes 10 buildings across 13 acres.
Its location adjoining two sets of railroad tracks made it the ideal place to ship seeds across the United States.
Northrup King & Co. occupied the building until the late 1980s when it was sold to private owners.
Artspace purchased the building from its longtime owner, Shamrock Properties, in 2019. The purchase agreement advanced in partnership with Intermedia Arts, which provided grant funding in support of the acquisition.
Northrup King art building has an alluring aura and radiating energy of creativity. I enjoy the historic beauty and splender of this 1900s brick and mortar building.
